Company Mission

For all professionals in the field of preserving cultural heritage, there is the need to remain a preservationist with a generalist's eye. AWC understands that their specialized training is only one strand in a large fabric, interwoven with other coequal and coexistent specialists. To work together effectively and successfully with other professionals, AWC understands the importance of working as a team towards common concepts for each curatorial task, a common language for describing the task and shared methods for dealing with it. Incorporating this philosophy into conservation methods allows AWC and the team they are working with to perpetually telescope in and out of a problem and satisfy their responsibilities both to the stewardship of cultural heritage and to the paying client.

Arnold Wood Conservation (AWC) has a mission that is different from most conservation firms. As a professional, we am compelled to use our knowledge to contribute to the overall mission of preservation in the community. We feel very strongly about preservation-oriented businesses contributing more than just their services. Historic preservation and stewardship is the responsibility of a community - especially for professionals in the field - but a community cannot feel responsible for something it does not know about or understand. AWC is organized to address preservation and conservation projects with this goal in mind. We work regularly with a publicist and a marketing development specialist in order to provide institutions with press coverage and community exposure. Each client and project we take on essentially becomes the primary focus of its own marketing campaign - yielding funding opportunities and community exposure, while creating an example and precedent for the preservation world. We want each organization we work with to walk away with more than just recommendations or executed repairs. Our top priority is to educate others on the importance of preserving our cultural heritage while providing the most appropriate repairs and recommendations to preserve our historic architecture.
